Hinwil, 4 November 2022 – #alfaromeof1teamorlen driver, #valtteribottas, highlighted the crucial role played in development by early childhood education as he visited a Save the Children-supported Centre Lolita in Mexico City ahead of last weekend’s Grand Prix.

Save the Children, the world’s leading children’s rights organisation and the team’s official charity partner since 2019, has made the commitment to giving children access to quality education in safe and protective spaces from their first years of life a central part of its mission. With this aim, the organisation supports early childhood education centres that provide crucial opportunities to children with disadvantaged backgrounds, giving them support and to build a self-determined future of opportunities.

Valtteri visited a centre in Mexico City and was able to participate in activities that form part of their visionary HEART (Healing and Education through the Arts) programme, bringing the proven power of artistic expression to children in order for them to reach their true potential. Valtteri joined the children in their activities, creating and sharing in a safe environment and building a memorable moment for those involved.

To mark the occasion, Valtteri also unveiled a special helmet, designed by a fan, and also received a t-shirt, designed by the Center Lolita children; both will be auctioned to raise funds for #savethechildren and its activities.

“Being able to see first-hand what #savethechildren does in the community has been an important experience,” Valtteri commented. “No matter from which background they come, all kids have the same needs and it’s key they have the same opportunities. The early years of a child’s development are the most important ones for their future life and this support can make all the difference. Seeing the impact these projects have on real lives is a humbling experience and I am glad we can raise funds to help #savethechildren run more activities like this one around the world.”

Save the Children aims to give children a healthy start in life, the opportunity to learn and protection from harm. The charity delivers lasting results for millions of children worldwide, including those hardest to reach – in areas of crisis or conflict – transforming their lives and their futures.
