Hankook Winter i*cept RS2:
A new safety expert for the cold seasons

As part of their new generation of winter tyres for the European market, #hankook present the Winter i*cept RS2 for compact and mid-sized cars with reliable and stable handling characteristics on wet, snowy, slushy and also dry roads. A new high dispersible compound in combination with a new grip claw tread design make for reliable and balanced performance in the moderate winter conditions in central and western Europe.

Neu-Isenburg, Germany, 21 September 2015 – Premium tyre maker #hankook presents its new winter Winter tyre, i*cept RS2 as part of the company’s new Winter i*cept generation. The tyre’s technologies provide best-in-class winter performance for automobiles ranging from small city vehicles, compact and medium-sized limousines to station wagons and family vans.  The Winter tyre, i*cept RS2 is optimised for the moderate winter conditions in central and western Europe and is already market available.

The directionalV-shaped tread design of Hankook's Winter i*cept RS2 features 28% more pitches as well as increased groove and block edge length. Enhanced traction on snow covered surfaces is the result of the tread design which effectively bites into the snow. Moreover the corrugated 3D sipes applied throughout the tyre tread increase traction and braking performance on all smooth surfaces. In addition they improve driving stability in wintery conditions by minimising block movement, abrasion and enhancing the overall handling performance through maximised edge effects. Special ice slits and grip claw 3D edges make for further improved cornering performance and snow traction.

Developed to deliver balanced performance in all wintery driving conditions, the new #hankook Winter i*cept RS2 comes equipped with a special nano-sized, high dispersible silica compound, resistant to hardening in low temperatures and a new solution-styrene butadiene rubber. The new compound ensures the tread stays elastic even at very low temperatures, thus providing excellent traction and braking power by increasing the tyre’s contact area on wintery and wet roads.

The tyre’s increased void volume, achieved through the application of two longitudinal wide grooves to the tread, improves snow grip and hydroplaning performance by further optimising the contact area. For better lateral grip and to prevent hydroplaning, special aqua slush grooves have been applied to the tyre’s tread for efficient water and slush displacement.

Through a more uniform distribution of the tyre footshape the contact patch area of the Winter i*cept RS2 is enlarged by as much as 5% compared to conventional products and results in improved braking performance on wet and dry roads. The tyre’s reinforced sidewall and bead section make for a direct steering response as well as improved cornering grip and dry handling performance.

The Winter i*cept RS2 is predominantly produced in Hankook’s European state-of-the-art production site in Hungary and  is now available in sizes varied from 14 – 17 inches, in tread widths of 165 – 225 mm with aspect ratios from 45  –  70 series in speed indexes H and T.
