Despite drizzle and cool temperatures, the final day of the smart Major #hamburg as part of the Swatch Beach Majors was still a beach party!

In an enthralling high-class final, Nick Lucena und Phil Dalhausser from the USA beat Alexander Brouwer/Robert Meeuwsen from the Netherlands in 46 minutes to win gold and pick up a check for USD 57,000.

There was a shock in the bronze medal match as third place went to Russians Viacheslav Krasilnikov and #konstantinsemenov, who beat World Champions and number one seeds from Brazil Alison/Bruno in three sets.

Phil Dalhausser: “I am glad to have won. We played our best and were rewarded with a victory. The first set was very close and it established us a crucial lead – just like in every #sport. In the second set we worked hard to build a big lead and made sure it wasn’t taken from us. #hamburg was great! Even though there was a bit of bad weather during the final so many fans came to watch. It was a remarkable atmosphere.”

Alexander Brouwer: “We really showed a high standard at this tournament and we can take a lot of confidence even though we are sad to have lost the final. The first close set was definitely the crucial point. It mentally broke us and was most likely the cause of why we lost focus. Anyway, we then gave the opponents more room; they started to serve better and the pressure during our return declined. And man! The shots from Nick Lucena really put me in difficult situations.”

Konstantin Semenov: “This is our first bronze medal and first medal at a Swatch Beach Major Series! We played really well. The reason was probably because we went to a fast food restaurant before the tournament. My partner had a burger which gave him the necessary strength…”

Bruno Schmidt: “We must learn from this tournament – there were mistakes that we made that need to be avoided. We only showed 50-60 per cent of what we can really do. We gave away too many easy points and were often behind in the scoring. Although we went through hard troubles, it is still great to have made it to the final four.”
