Stuttgart. It is now tradition that the #porsche #tennis Grand Prix supports charitable organisations providing aid to children in need all over the world through its “Aces for Charity” campaign. For every ace hit, its charity partners receive 100 euro. This year 149 aces were served before the final – and the #porsche AG has rounded up the sum to 30,000 euro. The money will be divided up equally and go to the “Stiftung Agapedia”, “Plan International” und #unicef. The checks were presented by Lutz Meschke, Executive Vice President Finances and IT #porsche AG before the final in the #porschearena on Sunday.
Stiftung Agapedia was founded 20 years ago by Jürgen Klinsmann and runs a children’s house in nearby Esslingen where daily up to 60 deprived children from the age of six to 12 from are cared for. They are provided given after-school care including homework supervision and meaningful after-school leisure activities like #sport, games and creative arts. On behalf of Jürgen Klinsmann, fellow 1990 World Cup winner Guido Buchwald was presented with the donation.
The Plan International children’s aid organisation, for whom long-distance runner Sabrina Mockenhaupt took receipt of the donation, will use the #porsche AG donation for its “Clean Water Project” in Ghana. Polluted water poses a major health risk especially for small children. Plan International’s aid reaches about 20,000 people in 19 project communities in the African country. The communities are involved in the long-term development and planning of the water project. An improved water supply plays a significant part in reducing infant mortality.
The donation for #unicef, the United Nations children’s organisation, was received by the actor and #unicef ambassador Hardy Krüger jr. The money goes to an educational project for Syrian refugee children in the Turkish border town of Mardin. #unicef renovates and builds schools, trains teachers and ensures all refugee children are given a school education. At total of 180,000 school children and 50,000 pre-school children are cared for in the region.
“Children are the weakest link within society and need our special protection,” said Hardy Krüger jr. “Thanks to #porsche for their support.”
