The #usa Team, fueled by a record-breaking performance from #terranceferguson, defeated the World Select Team 101-67 today at the #nikehoopsummit in Portland, Oregon. The result ended the latter’s recent success in the prestigious event.

Seeking its fourth victory in the last five Hoop Summit games, the World Team never recovered from the USA’s initial 16-0 run, as Ferguson set a new record for total three-pointers made in the game: seven, finishing as the game’s leading scorer with 21 points. The #usa player hit his first six threes in less than four minutes, after the World Team pulled within eight points in the second period.

“It wasn’t all about offense today, our main focus was on defense,” attests Ferguson. “We caused nearly 30 turnovers on the defensive end, so that was unbelievable. I got the hot hand and the players were going to feed me, so I was shooting it.”

With popular Oregon High School player Payton Pritchard adding four three-pointers of his own in the fourth quarter, the #usa recorded the Hoop Summit’s greatest margin of victory to date, comfortably beating the previous record of 20 points.

“We came out today and played very well,” affirms the #usa head coach L.J. Goolsby. “Our whole motto this week was to come out and be very aggressive from the beginning, and I thought the guys did an excellent job at that and set the tone early.”

Jayson Tatum added 14 points for the #usa, Pritchard 12 and Markelle Fultz scored 11 points. Brasil’s Wesley “Mogi” Silva lead the World Team with a solid nine-point, eight-rebound performance.

“We just didn’t look like a very confident team right from the start,” says World Team head coach Roy Rana of Canada. “The thing that’s disappointing is I don’t think we had our best day. When you turn it over as much as we did, it’s hard to win games.”

The World Team turned the ball over 20 times in the first half and 29 times total, and were further hindered by injuries to Canada’s Justin Jackson, who aggravated a groin injury, and Nigeria’s Udoka Azubuike, who suffered back spasms.

After trailing 20-2 in the first period, the World Team recorded a strong second-quarter start that cut the deficit to 22-14, but then they encountered Ferguson’s three-point barrage and the World Team entered half-time trailing 44-22. The USA’s domination continued in the second half, with Ferguson hitting his record seventh three-pointer a minute into the third period.
