Volkswagen returns to Food Network for a new season of Food Network Star

With its redesigned styling inside and out as well as available connectivity and driver assistance features, the family-friendly 2016 #volkswagen Passat will transport all thirteen culinary hopefuls throughout the season

Herndon, VA – Volkswagen of America, Inc., announced today its return as the automotive #sponsor for a new season of Food Network Star, beginning on Sunday, May 22nd at 9pm ET/PT on #food Network. As the official vehicle for the series, the redesigned 2016 Passat will be thoughtfully integrated into several segments. The Passat will be an additional tool for the thirteen finalists as they battle to become culinary icons and win the ultimate prize of hosting their own #food Network show.

“We are thrilled to partner with Food Network Star for the second consecutive year,” said Vinay Shahani, vice president, Marketing, #volkswagen of America. “With its winning combination of design, connectivity, and interior space, the 2016 Passat is well equipped to support each of these contestants on their individual quests to become a Food Network Star.”

The 2016 Passat will make its most prominent appearance in the June 5th episode followed by an integration in the Star Salvation series on FoodNetwork.com, where eliminated chefs compete to return to Food Network Star.

This product integration, in both broadcast and digital, will spotlight the Passat throughout the season and show viewers some of the key attributes of the vehicle’s design as well as standard and optional features, including:

  • Available #volkswagen Car-Net® App-Connect technology enables compatible smartphone integration through Apple CarPlay®, Android Auto™ and Mirror Link®
  • Advanced driver assistance features such as available Park Assist
  • Easy-Open keyless access, which allows the driver to open the trunk by moving their foot near the rear of the vehicle

The 2016 Passat is a well-equipped mid-size family sedan  designed with American families in mind and built in the world’s only LEED® Platinum certified manufacturing facility in Chattanooga, Tenn. Passat models offer sophisticated styling, a refined and spacious interior, advanced technology, available driver assistance features, and a powerful  engine. Perfect for carrying passengers and their belongings, the Passat also features Volkswagen’s second generation “modular infotainment platform,” MIB II, which allows for compatible smartphone integration and offers a comprehensive suite of connected vehicles services.

To view all of these features and more, tune in to Food Network Star, premiering Sunday, May 22nd, and airing at 9pm Eastern/8pm Central every Sunday through the season finale on July 31st.
