Neymar jr. reflects on why he was "born to play"

Press release available only in original language.

Ahead of a monumental year of #competition, #brasil National Team captain #neymarjr. reveals why the words “Born to Play Football” inspire him to be the best. He also reflects upon the responsibility that comes with donning the new Brasil National Team kits.

Since I was a kid, I wanted to be a football player. There was never really a moment when I thought that I couldn’t become a professional. I did have some hard times because I was very young — and very skinny — when I started my career, but I always believed and chased after my dream.

The biggest lesson I’ve learned is that you can always improve, day after day, match after match. I always want to get better and to outdo myself. When things are not going well in a match, I think about trying to help my teammates, trying to score a goal and helping my team to win. That is my motivation. With every victory comes the feeling of having done the right thing and of work accomplished.

Representing my country is a huge responsibility but also it is a joy. I’ll never forget my first match with the national team, but every time I play for the team is an unforgettable experience.

When it comes to being considered the best in the world… I think to be the best means to be the best at everything — to always be prepared, to make few mistakes and to always be working to improve.
